Blue Watercolor Sorbetto Top

Hello there!

So in September I did some selfish sewing and made a top for myself! I found this fabric at JoAnn and fell in love right away, I love love love the color and the pattern!

Anywho, I had had this fabric for a while but still couldn't decide on which pattern I wanted to use it for. I finally chose to use Colette Sorbetto Pattern. This is a free pattern, score! I think this pattern was easy to sew and it is a good pattern for beginner level seamstress. This pattern features a pleat, darts, and bias tape binding.

The only thing I did different with this pattern was that I lengthened the pattern by 2 inches and I added a sleeve. I don't exactly know how to draft a sleeve pattern so I actually used this sleeve pattern. Oh, and I also I added the seam allowance around the arm holes so it would be 5/8" .

For a finishing touch, I sewed 3 buttons on the pleat. It's quite amazing how this little step makes it look so much cuter (at least in my mind!)

Anywho, it has taken me a while to write and post this blog post... Why? Well let me just tell you how awkward I felt trying to take pictures of me wearing this top! I don't know how other bloggers do it, maybe they're talented in that, or maybe they've just had a lot of practicing to do! I just wasn't sure how to pose, where to look, what to do with my hands, things like that. Haha so just brace yourself before you see the pictures, I think you probably would be able to see the awkwardness...

Haha well this is the best-looking picture out of all of the ones I took, so maybe this one isn't too bad :)

Anyway, this is a great top and I love it! I love the white bias binding around the neck hole and arm holes. Of course I just adore the 3 little buttons there just being so cute :)

I feel that this blouse fits well on my body, except I think that the sleeves look just a tad weird, but people say that it looks okay so maybe it's just me over-criticizing!

Do you do a lot of self-portrait picture? I'd really appreciate some tips!

Baby Burp Cloths - Easy Sewing Project!

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen these burp cloths before! These are so easy, I think this would be a great beginner sewing project!

I just almost squealed when I found out that Elizabeth Olwen fabric line is available at JoAnn!

IMG_0085.JPG

The one on the left is a fat quarter from Jo-Ann. The two on the right are Elizabeth Owen's collection! I feel that the fabric goes well together!

If you can sew straight then I definitely think that you can make this!

I made this using the tutorial from The Thinking Closet.
The only thing I did different was instead of making a template that is 4 3/4 inch wide, I made a template that is 7 inches wide.
I feel that the wider fabric makes it look cuter :)

These burp cloths can also work as a changing pad! It is definitely big enough for that purpose. I gave these to a friend who is having a baby girl soon, I think she likes these so that's always good! :)

Fold Over Clutch

I just realized that I had not share this project with you yet!

So better late than never (it seems that I say that a lot) haha sorry I know one day I'll be good with this blog and update often. Someday.

FoldOverClutch-BuzzOfTheBees.jpg

I made this clutch a few months ago for my friend's birthday. I met her in college, she's super smart! We took chemistry classes together and had fun a lot. We actually shared an apartment for a few months. She's now studying in Indiana so I have not seen her for a while!

Anywho, when her birthday was coming up, I kinda freaked out a little. I wasn't sure what to give her. This is why I love to sew! Handmade gift are so personal, you can make anything and it's going to be special! Anywho, I found the tutorial online and decided that this would be a great gift for her!

I used 3 different prints of fabrics here. The top part is from a fat quarter from JoAnn, the main part is Birds and Clouds Blue -- Ipanema by Birch Fabrics, and the corner triangles are from Barcelona Sky City Map -- Zen Chic by Moda. I got lucky that I had these fabrics in hand because I feel that they go along together very well! Mind you, I'm not very good with mix and match-ing, so this was a big accomplishment for me.

When my friend received it, she told me that she couldn't believe that I had made it for her! That just made my day. I should sew gifts more often :)

Blue Flowers Spring Dress (McCall's M6504)

Okay, so I have sewn a dress and didn't write anything for a long time. Oops. Anywho, so I bought the pattern a looooong time ago. Pretty sure I bought it sometime in the mid 2013. Jo Ann was having $5 for 5 patterns so I thought I'd get some! I bought pattern for shirts, skirts, and a dress. I then bought a few yards of blue flower fabric that was on sale and a zipper for the dress. Dress Pattern.jpg Anywho, after I bought all these I realized that the biggest size on the McCall's M6504 pattern is size 14. Well let me just say that when I measured myself, the measurement for my waist is bigger than that on the size 14 of the pattern. So I was hopeful that my waist line would go smaller and then I would fit into the dress. You guessed it, my size didn't change. I then took a leap of faith and just started sewing anyway!

So I made the C style because I wanted to have sleeves for the dress. The only  modification I made was to make the dress 2 inches longer so that it would cover my knees. I wanted to modify the neckline so it wouldn't be as low but since the front part of the dress consist of different panels, I wasn't sure how to do it. So I just left it be, I'll just have to wear a camisole underneath the dress!

The pattern states "EASY" on it, and I'd say it's pretty true. There are just more seams than I thought so it took a little longer than what I had expected. What took the longest to do was of course hand sewing the invisible hem on the bottom of the dress--it's pretty big circumference!

Blue Flowers Spring Dress-1

The result was a nice, flowy dress that's just perfect for spring! I've worn it to church a couple times, I love this dress! Okay, so I didn't have anyone to take a picture of me so I just put my camera on the tripod and took some selfies. I couldn't figure out how to put my camera in the burst settings so I just put it in 10 s timer and go back and forth from the camera to where I should be! It's quite fun but kinda awkward at the same time... I'm just not used to taking pics of myself!

My next project is a blouse or a summer cardigan. We will see which one comes first. I bought this super cute looking blue watercolor print fabric. So excited!

Half Square Triangles Zipper Pouch

Half-square-triangles-zipper-pouch.jpg

I made this for last week's Relief Society activity. The activity was called "Share Your Talent Auction". It was so much fun! So pretty much everyone offered something. Some of the talents offered were helping with spring cleaning, three hours of sewing, a handmade scarf, bags of granola, etc. We didn't use money, instead we were given two-page-long questionnaire by which you get points. It was skewed though! Lol, the first question was 5 points for each year you have been married. Then the rest of the questions were just 5 points if you did this, 5 points if you did that. I've only been married for less than a year, while my mother-in-law, she has been married for more than 30 years! Haha she got more points on that one question than the points I got for the whole page of the questionnaire! Anywho, it was all fun though! I actually won a rich chocolate cake! So goood, it is definitely very rich!

The Big 20/20 Event: Day 7: Sew Your Own Pincushion

Jelly bean tin.jpg

This post is brought to you by me!

When you see me sewing, you will see a jelly beans tin right by me. You might think, “Oh Dita, you must really like to snack when you sew!” Well, I wish that tin was filled with jelly beans goodness. How disappointed will you be when I show you what’s inside the tin?

pins.jpg

This actually works really well, it keeps all the pins in one place. However, I want a pin cushion! Well, I guess a solution for that is to make one. Let’s make a pin cushion with me!

Tissue Case

2013-12-18 17.04.25

This is going to be a short post. I made these Tissue Case for Christmas. The Tissue Case Pattern and Tutorial  is shared by Novita of Very Purple Person. The pattern is easy to follow, however it is in metric measurements (so centimeters instead of inches). But the pattern is so simple that it shouldn't be a problem even if you are not used to using metric measurements, you just will have to have a ruler that shows the centimeters measurement.

What's great about this pattern is that you can sell the tissue cases you make in your craft shop.

I bought the Tissue at Daiso. It's a japanese store where all the things sold in there only cost $1.50. I got 16 little packets of 20 sheets of tissue paper. Quite cheap!

Baby Earflap Hat and Booties

Hi everyone!

I know it has been a while since the last post... That's because of the holiday! When the family are around I just don't feel like being on the computer, you know! Anywho, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2014! It has been a great year so far. Do you have any resolutions for this year? My resolution is to do what I want hahahaha.

So last Saturday I went to my sister-in-law's baby shower. I had a lot of time so I decided to make something for the baby. After browsing the internet for free patterns, I found 2 things that seemed easy to make and looked so cute!

baby-gifts-to-crochet

You can crochet both of them in a day! I actually did it in 2 days because for some reason I kept making mistakes while I crocheted the booties. Maybe it wasn't a crocheting day for me.

Alli from Alli crafts shared this free earflap hat pattern on her blog. She has various sizes available, from newborn to toddler size! I made it with a soft acrylic yarn that I have at home. Fortunately, my sister-in-law is expecting a boy and the yarn I have is blue! After making the earflap hat, I thought I can add a little pom pom on the top of the hat. The pom pom was easy to make, I used this How to Make Mini Yarn Pom Poms Video Tutorial. I love how something so simple can make it look so much cuter!

I used the same yarn for the baby booties. The crochet wrap-around button infant boots pattern is shared by Ashlee of I'm Topsy Turvy. I find the pattern easy to follow, which makes me feel embarrassed that I kept making mistakes while making it. I don't know why, maybe I was just tired. Anyway, I think the buttons on the booties are a big part of why they look so adorable!

My sister-in-law and her friends said that they look really cute! I'm glad they like it. I love making handmade gifts!

Free Printable -- Albert Einstein Quote

Hi everyone! So, I decided to do another easy project in Adobe Illustrator. I decided to make a printable quote. There are so many great quotes out there and this is the one I chose.

"Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile" -Albert Einstein

I feel like this is a great quote. This quote reminds us to serve others around us. Charity never faileth! I have also  found that doing an act of good deed not only can help others to be happy, but also myself! As human, we are social creatures, being around people makes us happy. I am grateful to have so many people who care about me and have done so much for me. I hope that this quote can remind us of those who care about us. I also hope that this quote can remind us to help others whenever we can!

I hope you will enjoy this printable!

Making My First Color Palette

Mt. Rainier Color Pallete

I have just started to learn on how to use Adobe Illustrator. I have been having fun with it so far. I am borrowing a book from the local library. It is called Adobe Illustrator CS6 Classroom in a Book.  This book is the official training workbook from Adobe Systems. I should write a review when I'm done with it! I think this book has been a great way to spend my time. It is harder than, say an eCourse where you can watch a video. However, since I am borrowing this book from the library it is free! Yay!

So after learning some basics I just thought I would do an easy project, something I can share on my blog. I think a color palette is a pretty fun, easy project!

I took this picture when my husband and I went on a daytrip to Mt. Rainier. We usually just go to this place called Paradise. Paradise is so pretty, and there is a little hike that you can go up to. It is very pretty in the spring, so many wildflowers. On this day we decided to go to another place called Longmire after we went to Paradise. Well, it turned out to be a great idea! The scenery of the road we took to Longmire was just so amazing. It was something new to us, none of us had been there. So this is one the sites that is between Longmire and Paradise. It is called the Nisqually River.

I hope you will enjoy it!
