November 2014 Calendar Printable

Oh wow I don't post very often, do I? Sorry guys, I haven't done much crafting lately... I keep thinking of things that I want to do but I've been a little lazy I guess....

Anywho, did you guys have a fun halloween?

My husband and I actually didn't do any costumes or anything. We didn't have a party to go to so we just stayed at home last night and watched The Birds together. I can happily say that I didn't have a nightmare with birds last night :)

It's a new month so it's time for a new calendar printable!

November-2014-Calendar

This month's calendar printable features a lovely pattern from the Geo Basics pattern collection that I received by being a Roost Tribe member!

I really like this pattern! Love the subtle colors! The pattern reminds me a little of venus fly trap!

Blue Watercolor Sorbetto Top

Hello there!

So in September I did some selfish sewing and made a top for myself! I found this fabric at JoAnn and fell in love right away, I love love love the color and the pattern!

Anywho, I had had this fabric for a while but still couldn't decide on which pattern I wanted to use it for. I finally chose to use Colette Sorbetto Pattern. This is a free pattern, score! I think this pattern was easy to sew and it is a good pattern for beginner level seamstress. This pattern features a pleat, darts, and bias tape binding.

The only thing I did different with this pattern was that I lengthened the pattern by 2 inches and I added a sleeve. I don't exactly know how to draft a sleeve pattern so I actually used this sleeve pattern. Oh, and I also I added the seam allowance around the arm holes so it would be 5/8" .

Sorbetto Top

For a finishing touch, I sewed 3 buttons on the pleat. It's quite amazing how this little step makes it look so much cuter (at least in my mind!)

SorbettoButtons

Anywho, it has taken me a while to write and post this blog post... Why? Well let me just tell you how awkward I felt trying to take pictures of me wearing this top! I don't know how other bloggers do it, maybe they're talented in that, or maybe they've just had a lot of practicing to do! I just wasn't sure how to pose, where to look, what to do with my hands, things like that. Haha so just brace yourself before you see the pictures, I think you probably would be able to see the awkwardness...

SorbettoPose

Haha well this is the best-looking picture out of all of the ones I took, so maybe this one isn't too bad :)

Anyway, this is a great top and I love it! I love the white bias binding around the neck hole and arm holes. Of course I just adore the 3 little buttons there just being so cute :)

I feel that this blouse fits well on my body, except I think that the sleeves look just a tad weird, but people say that it looks okay so maybe it's just me over-criticizing!

Do you do a lot of self-portrait picture? I'd really appreciate some tips!

October 2014 Printable Calendar

October is almost here... Yay! Even with the great summer that I've had this year, I was ready to say bye to summer and welcome fall season! I love that fall is so cozy! Here in the Pacific Northwest the rain has started to come. How does it look like where you live?

Brighten your month with this cute printable calendar!

Baby Burp Cloths - Easy Sewing Project!

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen these burp cloths before! These are so easy, I think this would be a great beginner sewing project!

IMG_0093.JPG

I just almost squealed when I found out that Elizabeth Olwen fabric line is available at JoAnn!

IMG_0085.JPG

The one on the left is a fat quarter from Jo-Ann. The two on the right are Elizabeth Owen's collection! I feel that the fabric goes well together!

If you can sew straight then I definitely think that you can make this!

I made this using the tutorial from The Thinking Closet.
The only thing I did different was instead of making a template that is 4 3/4 inch wide, I made a template that is 7 inches wide.
I feel that the wider fabric makes it look cuter :)

These burp cloths can also work as a changing pad! It is definitely big enough for that purpose. I gave these to a friend who is having a baby girl soon, I think she likes these so that's always good! :)

Portland Rose Garden

My mom gave me a surprise visit last month!  Well, I guess half a surprise because she actually told me that she was coming over, but she never told me when! She flew all the way here from Indonesia to stay with me for about 2 weeks! It was so much fun! I hadn't seen her for almost two years so it was super duper nice that she came and visited me! I'm a happy girl :)

Anywho, she has super nice friends here! They're awesome, they took her everywhere! We got to go to Portland on a Friday. That was the first time we were there! I especially loved my time at the Portland Rose Garden. Both my mom and I love flowers, well who doesn't anyway! The Portland Rose Garden Has, dare I say, literally thousands of roses there! It's free to go there so if you're ever around that area, make sure to visit!

During our time there, we took, ahem, literally hundreds of pictures!

Here are some of the pics I took!

Fold Over Clutch

I just realized that I had not share this project with you yet!

So better late than never (it seems that I say that a lot) haha sorry I know one day I'll be good with this blog and update often. Someday.

FoldOverClutch-BuzzOfTheBees.jpg

I made this clutch a few months ago for my friend's birthday. I met her in college, she's super smart! We took chemistry classes together and had fun a lot. We actually shared an apartment for a few months. She's now studying in Indiana so I have not seen her for a while!

Anywho, when her birthday was coming up, I kinda freaked out a little. I wasn't sure what to give her. This is why I love to sew! Handmade gift are so personal, you can make anything and it's going to be special! Anywho, I found the tutorial online and decided that this would be a great gift for her!

I used 3 different prints of fabrics here. The top part is from a fat quarter from JoAnn, the main part is Birds and Clouds Blue -- Ipanema by Birch Fabrics, and the corner triangles are from Barcelona Sky City Map -- Zen Chic by Moda. I got lucky that I had these fabrics in hand because I feel that they go along together very well! Mind you, I'm not very good with mix and match-ing, so this was a big accomplishment for me.

When my friend received it, she told me that she couldn't believe that I had made it for her! That just made my day. I should sew gifts more often :)

August 2014 Printable Calendar

Hello there guys!

As you've found out, I've been lazy... The last post was posted a month ago. I'm not sure why, but I just haven't been motivated to blog lately. Perhaps it's the nice weather that we have been having? Haha it makes me to just want to be outside and not be on the computer. Idk though, I feel like I still spend way too much time on the computer!

With the warmer weather here, I've been liking popsicles a lot more than usual. They just seem to be more tasty (or is it tastier? someone enlighten me please). Anywho, I thought it'd be fun to feature some popsicles in the calendar printable! I usually use the patterns I get from being a Roost Tribe member, but these popsicles are pretty simple shapes so I was able to make it myself using Adobe Illustrator. I feel a little proud, I'm not good at Illustrator  yet but I feel like I am doing better!

I hope you'll enjoy it!

Views from Snoqualmie Pass in the Pacific Crest Trail

Hello...

It's been  a while! I'm a little embarrassed about that... There are actually some posts that I can write but I have been super lazy. You know how some people say "Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today"? Well, I feel like I have just been living in "If you can do it tomorrow, why do it today?" kind of mindset.

Anywho, I decided that I will write this today! Hopefully I will start choosing not to procrastinate.

So, this last Saturday my husband had a day off! What fun it was, he hadn't had saturdays off for a long time. We decided we should celebrate it by doing something fun! The weather forecast said that the weather should be nice and sunny so we decided we should go up on a little hike!

We decided to go to Snoqualmie Pass as there is a Pacific Crest trailhead right over there and it's only about 40 minutes away from home. The Pacific Crest trail is actually a very long trail that goes from US-Mexico border to US-Canada border.

The trail went over where the skiing and snowboarding area would be in the winter so it was pretty cool to walk under the ski lifts.

The weather actually wasn't as nice as they forecasted it to be, so we didn't hike for too long because it was windy up there and I was cold.

Fortunately, we were able to take some pics!

Blue Flowers Spring Dress (McCall's M6504)

Okay, so I have sewn a dress and didn't write anything for a long time. Oops. Anywho, so I bought the pattern a looooong time ago. Pretty sure I bought it sometime in the mid 2013. Jo Ann was having $5 for 5 patterns so I thought I'd get some! I bought pattern for shirts, skirts, and a dress. I then bought a few yards of blue flower fabric that was on sale and a zipper for the dress. Dress Pattern.jpg Anywho, after I bought all these I realized that the biggest size on the McCall's M6504 pattern is size 14. Well let me just say that when I measured myself, the measurement for my waist is bigger than that on the size 14 of the pattern. So I was hopeful that my waist line would go smaller and then I would fit into the dress. You guessed it, my size didn't change. I then took a leap of faith and just started sewing anyway!

So I made the C style because I wanted to have sleeves for the dress. The only  modification I made was to make the dress 2 inches longer so that it would cover my knees. I wanted to modify the neckline so it wouldn't be as low but since the front part of the dress consist of different panels, I wasn't sure how to do it. So I just left it be, I'll just have to wear a camisole underneath the dress!

The pattern states "EASY" on it, and I'd say it's pretty true. There are just more seams than I thought so it took a little longer than what I had expected. What took the longest to do was of course hand sewing the invisible hem on the bottom of the dress--it's pretty big circumference!

Blue Flowers Spring Dress-1

The result was a nice, flowy dress that's just perfect for spring! I've worn it to church a couple times, I love this dress! Okay, so I didn't have anyone to take a picture of me so I just put my camera on the tripod and took some selfies. I couldn't figure out how to put my camera in the burst settings so I just put it in 10 s timer and go back and forth from the camera to where I should be! It's quite fun but kinda awkward at the same time... I'm just not used to taking pics of myself!

Blue Flowers Spring Dress-2.jpg

My next project is a blouse or a summer cardigan. We will see which one comes first. I bought this super cute looking blue watercolor print fabric. So excited!
