Portland Rose Garden

My mom gave me a surprise visit last month!  Well, I guess half a surprise because she actually told me that she was coming over, but she never told me when! She flew all the way here from Indonesia to stay with me for about 2 weeks! It was so much fun! I hadn't seen her for almost two years so it was super duper nice that she came and visited me! I'm a happy girl :)

Anywho, she has super nice friends here! They're awesome, they took her everywhere! We got to go to Portland on a Friday. That was the first time we were there! I especially loved my time at the Portland Rose Garden. Both my mom and I love flowers, well who doesn't anyway! The Portland Rose Garden Has, dare I say, literally thousands of roses there! It's free to go there so if you're ever around that area, make sure to visit!

During our time there, we took, ahem, literally hundreds of pictures!

Here are some of the pics I took!

Views from Snoqualmie Pass in the Pacific Crest Trail

Hello...

It's been  a while! I'm a little embarrassed about that... There are actually some posts that I can write but I have been super lazy. You know how some people say "Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today"? Well, I feel like I have just been living in "If you can do it tomorrow, why do it today?" kind of mindset.

Anywho, I decided that I will write this today! Hopefully I will start choosing not to procrastinate.

So, this last Saturday my husband had a day off! What fun it was, he hadn't had saturdays off for a long time. We decided we should celebrate it by doing something fun! The weather forecast said that the weather should be nice and sunny so we decided we should go up on a little hike!

We decided to go to Snoqualmie Pass as there is a Pacific Crest trailhead right over there and it's only about 40 minutes away from home. The Pacific Crest trail is actually a very long trail that goes from US-Mexico border to US-Canada border.

The trail went over where the skiing and snowboarding area would be in the winter so it was pretty cool to walk under the ski lifts.

The weather actually wasn't as nice as they forecasted it to be, so we didn't hike for too long because it was windy up there and I was cold.

Fortunately, we were able to take some pics!

Happy Pi Day!

Happy-pi-day

Happy π Day, everyone! Today is the March 14th, also known as pi day!
What an irrational day to celebrate! Pi is an irrational number. What that means is that the number can not be represented by a simple fraction. An example of a rational number is 0.125, which can be represented by 1/8.

The value of π is 3.14159265... it goes on and one and one! You should check out one million digits of pi.

Pi can be defined as the ratio between the circumference of a circle divided by it's diameter (it's distance across). That's why in math we know that the formula to find a circumference of a circle is π multiplied by the diameter of a circle!

Oh, did you know that Albert Einstein was born on a pi day?

I celebrate this day by eating some pie! Yummy yummy pie! :)

A Dozen of Goals for 2014

New Year is the time when we have hopes for the days to come. There are 365 of new days that we still have not experienced. While we can not predict what will happen in the future, we can still plan on how we would like to fill these days.
A lot of people start a new year's resolution. While I'm not that big on a resolution, I like having goals.
As a member of the Roost Tribe, I have received a 2014 goals printable. I like the idea of writing down your goals, it can really help motivate you to achieve it!
So I printed it out, and wrote down my goals. Sometimes when people don't achieve the goals they quit on it. I hope that's not what I will do. If I am a little short of these goals, I hope to be able to get back on track and do it again. I will keep on trying and I will do my best.

Here are the goals that I have:

2014Goals

1. Learn Illustrator
Although I can do a thing or two in Adobe Illustrator, I would really like to really know and master it. I have been borrowing a book from the library just for that. It is called "Adobe Illustrator CS6 Classroom in a Book". There are 15 chapters in the book and I am now on the chapter 5.

2. Hydrate myself
I know drinking enough water is something that is very important to do. Water is crucial for our body. I also happen to know that I don't drink enough water. I found myself drinking drink 3 glasses of water in a day (one with breakfast, one with lunch, one with dinner). Sometimes even less than that. So, I want to help myself by drinking enough water!

3. Study the scriptures everyday
This is something that I have been working on. I know I need to do it everyday. I read everyday, but not scriptures. I want to read the scriptures everyday, even if it's only 10 minutes a day. I am going to try and remember to read the scriptures in the morning, before I read my books. Reading scriptures is a great way to learn and receive answers.

4. Exercise everyday
I know by exercising everyday I can help my body to be healthier. I don't have a gym membership so I like to workout at home. I like watching workout videos, I feel like I have a personal trainer who can guide me and motivate me. I am so glad to have found Jessica Smith TV. She has more than a hundred workout videos on YouTube, and the number always goes up as she uploads a new video every week. One thing that I actually like is that she puts a weekly schedule. Without the schedule, maybe I would spend 30 minutes just to pick a workout. I actually have been working out everyday for more than 2 weeks now, I don't think I have ever done that in my life.

5. Be more aware of what I eat
To have a healthy body, not only exercise is important, but also nutrition. So, I want to be more aware of what I eat. I want to keep a food journal. I think being aware of what I eat will help me to eat healthier.

6. Grow my blog
I know, I know. This is something that I have always wanted to do. Grow my blog, post consistently. I need to think more of what I want to put here. Maybe even write ahead of time. In the future, maybe not this year, I would like to have a self-hosted blog.

7. Learn how to quilt
I have been following quite a lot of quilting blogs now. I sew, so why not quilt? Quilts are so beautiful. It looks hard though. I will start slow, maybe do some easy blocks first, and then make something out of it.

8. Sew at least one garment
I love sewing, but I don't make garments that often. I think part of the reason is because it can be expensive, with the fabrics and the notions. Last year I made a scallop skirt using the pattern from the Collete book. I also have a pattern for a high-low dress, along with the fabric and notions. I bought this a long time ago. I have everything so I need to make it!

9. Be a better listener
Okay, this one has a little bit of confession in it. I don't see myself as a bad listener, however, I know that I can do better. Sometimes I would be listening to someone (or look like I am) but really, my mind would wander. I hear the words, but I didn't listen. I'd really like to practice and be present when someone is talking to me.

10. Knit something
This last christmas, my brother-in-law taught me how to knit. His family also gave me other knitting necessities like needles and yarns. So far, I have only made dish cloths. I want to knit something I can wear. Like a scarf or a hat. I will have to safe some money to buy the circular needles and my desired yarn.

11. Go to the temple
This is a goal that I have had since last year, but I know I won't be able to go until this year. Going to the temple will really be a highlight of my year.

12. Make Indonesian food once a month
Being from Indonesia, I know I LOVE Indonesian food. I just don't cook it that often, just because some of the ingredients are a little hard to find. Things that can't be found in regular grocery stores, I will have to go to Asian grocery store. It's just easier to cook other kind of food, so I don't cook Indonesian that often. The great thing about it is that my husband likes Indonesian food also!

There, I've laid it out. My dozen of goals for 2014. I hope I can do it! Do you have any goals this year? Feel free to share it here.

Our Trip to Leavenworth

Leavenworth-Trip

Mr. Bee has a silly schedule. His schedule is different every week, we only know that he doesn't work on Sunday. Other than that, we have to wait until the next week's schedule comes out.

Well, he had the day off yesterday (Monday). Of course he had a great idea of what to do. He wanted to go to Leavenworth.

Leavenworth is a town that is about 130 miles away from where we live. The interesting thing about this town is that you will feel like you are in a Bavarian village. It is so fun, the buildings just look very Bavarian. What I like the most is when I see stores that are more common there (e.g. Starbucks and Safeway) because the font of the brands are in Bavarian font. It's just so unique!
So, from what I know, Leavenworth hasn't always looked like a Bavarian village. After reading the Leavenworth History, I found out that the city was on the brim of extinction when they started to change the appearance of the city. With the beautiful background of the mountains, the Bavarian theme was picked. Their plan was to attract tourist to the area. According to the site, "close to two million tourists come to Leavenworth each year." So we know that their plan to save the town has definitely worked very well.

The Christmas Lighting Festival is one of Leavenworth's annual event. If you are thinking of coming, here is the schedule of Leavenworth's Christmas Lighting Festival. It is a big magnet for tourists. I remember going there on a Saturday two years ago, it was definitely packed! So be prepared with having to find parking, walking a little, and with finding out where to eat. Two years ago we couldn't find any restaurant that could accommodate us.

Anywho, back to yesterday... When we got there,  I was hungry. So we just walked around, looking for something that sounds good. So, I think researching the restaurants before you go there is very important.  If you have a smartphone, that means you can just research while you are there. Look for restaurants reviews in Yelp or maybe Trip Advisor. Just make sure you look at the reviews first before you go. Unfortunately, this is something that we forgot to do. So, we ended up eating at The Soup Cellar, which was the first time we ate there and probably the last. Why? The food wasn't good and it was definitely way overpriced for what you get.

I had the Bavarian Plate, which has two German sausages, potato salad, kraut, and a dinner roll. As a Reuben fan, of course Mr. Bee ordered the Reuben (Corned beef, kraut, swiss cheese on rye bread) that also comes with thousand island sauce and potato salad. He also got the fountain drink, I had water.

Mr. Bee seemed to enjoy his food. Unfortunately, I don't think I enjoyed it as much as he did. The sausages were okay, it wasn't very delicious. The dinner roll was warm however hard to eat, the texture almost felt like rubber. The potato salad was good though, that's probably the only thing I really enjoyed! What's sad too is that we spent $27 total! Too expensive, I guess that's the downside of a tourist town: food is more expensive!

After eating, we just walked around the town and visited various stores. We went to one of my favorite store there: The Wood Shop & Hat Shop. I really like this shop, it's just so fun to try on all the different hats they have there.

I tried the Panda Hat on.

I made him wear it.

We had so much fun! I am glad that we were able to go there and spend time with each other. Leavenworth is a fun town, you should visit it sometime!

Snoqualmie Falls in December

This morning Mr. Bee was reading the newspaper while eating cereal for breakfast. In the newspaper He saw a picture of Snoqualmie Falls. Since we had no plans for today, Mr. Bee suggested to go there.

Well, I'd just have to say that I am so glad that I did! When we got there, I could see there were a lot of people who came to take photographs of the view. While enjoying the view, I saw a helicopter hovering over the falls (I bet they were taking pictures too)

Let's let the picture do the talk!

A man that was standing by Mr. Bee told him that he had never seen Snoqualmie Falls like this before. I feel so lucky and grateful that we got to enjoy this beautiful view!

Our attempt of taking a selfie didn't quite work...

Thanksgiving Weekend

Something that I realized this week is that I need to do better with updating this blog! Yeah, I need to post more often. The thing is, I know I have the time but I just got lazy.

Anywho, I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving day! I sure did :) My parents-in-law hosted the Thanksgiving dinner and there were family members everywhere! Grandma, aunt, uncle, cousins, and siblings. In total we had 13 adults and 4 kids. I think the 4 kids were more noisy than the 13 adults... Well of course!

It was my 4th Thanksgiving.
My 1st Thanksgiving was in Utah. I spent it with the Bartletts, the family that hosted me while I was an exchange student.
The 2nd Thanksgiving was in Wenatchee, WA. I was in my first year of college and my host family, the Kanes, took me to celebrate Thanksgiving with their family.
The 3rd was here with Mr. Bee (my husband)'s family. I think we had been dating for about 8 months. It was a happy day. Well, Thanksgiving has always been a happy day anyway.

It was quite fun! Mr. Bee's Grandma taught me how to crochet with thread. It wasn't easy. While I was struggling to make 1 napkin ring, Grandma made 3 already. She is quite the pro! Actually, she made a doily for our wedding.

That day, we also celebrated my brother-in-law's birthday, so we had the famous Bybee apple pie! Yay! It was so super duper delicious! Oh the food I ate that day. Let's just say that my tummy had quite the party.

More about food that we had, so pretty much the whole Thanksgiving weekend we had turkey. So, we had roasted turkey on Thursday, turkey enchiladas on Friday, turkey noodle soup on Saturday, and more roasted turkey on Saturday (Mr. Bee's aunt cooked fresh turkey.) Someday I should share the recipes.

Did anyone go anywhere for Black Friday? I personally didn't get anything. There were sooo many great deals, but there wasn't anything that we needed and nothing that was in anyone's wish list. We did go to Jo-Ann though. My mother-in-law is going to make blankets for her future grandchildren. They had a great deal on flannel, 75% off! Luckily, the line wasn't as bad as we thought! So everything went pretty well.

It was this last weekend when I realized that I need to post more often! I would like to be better. I had this blog up for myself, so I know I will benefit from it. Hopefully this can somehow help others too! I would try to share more here.

I hope all of you had a great weekend!

Trip to Mt Rainier

Warning: Due to the nature, this post is picture heavy.

Last month, on July 11th Mr. Bee and I decided to go on a daytrip to Mt. Rainier. It was a nice sunny day with a little bit of cloud.

Since it was on a weekday, it wasn't too crowded (which made us very happy!)

Here is a view from the car, on the way to Paradise
2013-07-11 13.10.56

Mt. Rainier is so pretty. We are so lucky to live somewhat close to it. It is always such a treat to be able to see Mt. Rainier. What's crazy about it is because you can see the cascades around it, but Mt Rainier is so huge that the cascades look tiny compared to it.

This is the view from the parking lot of Paradise Visitor Center
2013-07-11 14.39.07

We didn't go walk up the little hike at Paradise. I can't remember exactly why, probably because we had done it before and I was lazy. But anywho, since we had time, we decided to go to Longmire. Neither of us had gone there, so it was a little adventure I guess.

So it turned out that Longmire, unlike Paradise, don't exactly have a Visitor's Center Building. I mean it's still cool, there is a place where you can stay there, and also little trails that we could've done. We plan to go to the trails the next time we go there.

But the amazing thing about Longmire is the drive! So pretty, a lot of gorgeous view. Very cool. We passed several waterfalls.

We stopped at Narada Falls mainly because we had to use the bathroom. Haha. But it turned out that there is this little trail going down where you can see the falls better. You can even feel the mist on your face, quite refreshing on a hot sunny day.

Trip to the Museum of Flight

This is a late post... Meaning I am supposed to have this posted much earlier yet I kept procrastinating.

Anywho, so on our 1st month wedding anniversary, Mr. Bee and I went to the Museum of Flight. I have wanted to go there for a while, so I was very excited!

It was a hot sunny day, so it felt good to be inside! It was so very cool

Anywho, my favorite moment was when we danced to the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow next to the Spitfire Exhibit. Pretty cool, I'd say. Too bad I didn't take a picture of the Spitfire, I thought I did, but I couldn't find it.

We had a chance to experience the cockpit

He's a funny guy
2013-06-17 14.05.10

and then we felt quite rebellious.
2013-06-17 16.34.22

It was fun! You could go outside and they had several airplanes that you could check out. Mr. Bee wanted to check out the 747 but it's only open in August I think... But, we got to check out the Concorde and the old Air Force One! I don't know where the pictures went, I swear I took some pics of 'em! I found the Old Air Force One to be interesting as they had old rotating dial telephone, old typewriter, and other old stuff.

It was a good day, and I had tons of fun! Mr. Bee seemed to enjoy it too!

Thank you for a great day! I have such an amazing husband :D

Rocket Launch!

Earlier this month, June 1st to be exact, the Physics Club of Green River Community College had a super fun activity! We launched rockets! Each of the member of the Physics Club was given a budget of $15 per person for the rocket. The Physics Club bought it for us, how awesome! Anywho, my friend Jessica and I decided to do a rocket together. That means we had $30 budget! We bought a nicer rocket, the name is Estes Screaming Eagle. The rocket looks a lot like a fighter jet. We got the rocket maybe a month before the launch but since we were so busy, we didn't really start assembling the rocket until 3-5 days before the launch date.

This is the picture of the rocket that we assembled.

Since both Jessica and I were busy, we didn't have time to buy gray spray paint. I just went with whatever spray paint that I found at home, which was black color with some specks of copper. So our rocket didn't look like the picture up there, here is how it looks like.

2013-06-01 10.03.12

Do you see the little missiles? So cute! Anyway, this isn't the first rocket that I've made. Two years ago I made a rocket, it was my very first rocket so it was simple beginner rocket and not as hard to assemble as the Screaming Eagle. Below is a picture of the rocket that I assembled two years ago
IMG_0104

I know it looks huge in the picture, but the rocket is only about 6 inches tall. My friend had orange and black spray paint so I thought it would be fun to make a tiger pattern. Even though it took quite a while to do it, it was easy, all I had to do was paint the rocket orange, tear some masking tape and put it together in a way that it would look like a tiger stripes, and then spray the black paint over it.

Jessica and I had tons of fun during the event. It was such a nice day! Early June in Seattle area, no one can expect to have a nice sunny day but we were glad that it was such a nice day!
2013-06-01 11.04.56

(That's me and Jessica, notice the nice sunny background)

I have a video here if you want to see how the rocket launched. It went really well, the parachute worked too! I was *this* close to catching it, you can see in the video. Btw, you can skip to 0:50 on the video.

Click here to watch the video

It was a great day! I think it's safe to say that all of us had tons of fun! I'm gonna miss GRCC's Physics Club
